Rayence: Recipient of a Plaque of Appreciation from Hallym University Hospital for its CSR Activity

On May 8, Rayence, an affiliate company of VATECH, received a plaque of appreciation from Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital  in recognition of the company's contributions to the community.

It can be recalled that in June of 2014, the Social Welfare Community Chest for local children's medical/health promotion of Rayence and Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital signed a tripartite agreement to support the medical expenses and cost of living of the youth and children who suffer from developmental disabilities, as well as rare and incurable diseases such as Guillain-Barré syndrome.

In the past year, the company has aimed at providing the needed support to cover the medical cost for children who needed thorough examinations, treatments, and therapies for diseases such as Kawasaki disease (acute febrile vasculitis), brain lesions, tic disorders, and viral gastrointestinal infections.
With this support, a total of 8 local children, with ages ranging from a 9-month old infant to a 19-year old teenager, have regained their health.

So, on the occasion of the second anniversary celebration of Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital, a plaque of appreciation was awarded to Rayence.

VATECH Korea Exhibit at SIDEX 2015

With yearly exhibits, the Seoul International Dental Exhibition (SIDEX) has concluded its 2015 run last May 8 to 10, 2015 at the COEX Exhibition Halls in Seoul, South Korea.

A highlight in this year's exhibit was the introduction of one of VATECH's latest products, the world's first bendable intraoral sensor, the "EzSensor Soft".

Oral sensors are crucial in providing X-ray image for intraoral diagnostics. In previous oral sensors, a patient needs to bite and hold on a rigid sensor in the mouth for a moment while an X-ray image of the target area is being taken. This process makes the patient feeling uncomfortable and in pain.

The development of the EzSensor Soft is in response to this need for a more patient-friendly product.  Its soft exterior and bendable characteristics provide less pain on patients.
More so, its soft exterior provides for a reduced risk of breakage when the sensor gets dropped, as it absorbs the shock of the fall.

EzSensor Soft has also acquired an IP for international waterproof standard.

To sum it up, here is a short photo collage on video showing the VATECH booth during the SIDEX 2015.

Testimonial: Ahead of the Game, PaX-i3D

When Kent-based dentist Louise Auger advocates digital dentistry, it is not just the clinical benefits that she speaks of, but also the way it improves dentist-patient relationships.

‘In the past, dentistry had a poor reputation when it came to patient education and clinician-patient communication,’ says Louise of Hospital Lane Dental and Implant Clinic, Blue Bell Hill. ‘Patients came in and had their treatment and didn’t always know what was going on.’

But at Hospital Lane, a state-of-the-art private clinic that boasts seven surgeries, 11 dentists and a designated imaging room, things couldn’t be more different.

Louise, a dentist of 25 years standing, helps guide patients through the initial diagnosis and planning of their treatment, using three-dimensional imagery to show them where a problem lies and how it could be treated.

‘Computing is very much part of dentistry but we are still dealing with human beings. The digital imaging aspect is a real eye-opener for patients. When we show patients the three-dimensional images of their problem areas they can clearly see that we are trying to advise and guide them to the correct treatment options to improve their dental health. This has the added benefit of improving patient awareness of their dental health and, in turn, their own responsibility for it. As a team we can then work together towards better dental health and wellbeing.’

Thanks to its cutting-edge technology, the Hospital Lane clinic is already ahead of the game. The practice uses Vatech PaX-i3D 12x9 SC – an advanced digital dental diagnostic system that incorporates panoramic, cephalometric and three- dimensional CT imaging capabilities in a single machine.

Advanced sensors produce high quality images in two-dimensions and three- dimensions of the dental/maxillofacial regions for dental treatment planning and diagnosis. The PaX-i 3D 12x9 SC provides four different field of volume sizes for CBCT images (5x5cm, 8x5cm, 8x8cm and 12x9cm), enabling the clinician to select the optimum size required while minimising radiation exposure.

Early investments

In 2001, the practice invested in an early three-dimensional imaging system using tomograms (single slices of X-ray) rather than computerised tomography (layers of X-ray), which had to be developed onto film, traced and carefully interpreted.
However, in 2008, after researching all the imaging machines on offer, the practice switched to the Vatech & E-Woo Technology Picasso Trio SC – the flagship system of its time.

‘The system was digital. We could view the images on the screen; we didn’t have to process films any more. We could take pictures of a whole jaw in one go rather than having to take multiple separate slices. It meant far less time for the patient in the machine and more importantly far less radiation exposure.’
What’s more, the quality of the images was far superior to anything Louise had previously seen. It also boosted clinicians’ confidence in their planning of implant cases and oral surgery procedures.
‘The software is so accurate that we can plan the implant treatment directly onto the scan,’ explains Louise, ‘You can be pretty sure that the implants that you choose from the software templates are the implants that you are going to be using when you place the implants within a limited variation.’

This allows the dentists to have the correct implants and components in stock, reducing unnecessary stress and improving time management and planning.
‘As implants are going into bone and they are a three-dimensional appliance themselves, standard dental X-rays, which are two-dimensional, just don’t give us enough information when planning implant treatment. With three-dimensional CT images, you get vertical, horizontal, depth and the shape of the jawbone and that is so critical,’ says Louise
‘We are also able to take bone density profile readings, which are an important guide to how hard or soft the bone is in the proposed implant site. Occasionally, the shape of the jawbone will surprise you and you would not pick that up on two-dimensional imaging. If you relied on two-dimensional imaging and placed an implant in an unsuitable site, you could cause all sorts of issues. With three-dimensional imaging you can pre-empt and avoid potential problems.’

In November 2013, the team upgraded to the Vatech PaX-i 3D 12x9 SC for its greater choice of image size. Smaller sizes are ideal for planning single tooth implants. The PaX-i 3D 12x9 SC also gives DAP (Dose Area Product) readings, making it compliant with current CT regulations. Furthermore, it offers Magic PAN, which creates superb panoramic images with much clearer definition across the whole image.
‘With old systems, certain areas were not always clear due to the way the image was captured. Now we get clarity in the anterior of the mouth as well as the wisdom tooth area.’

Louise describes the machine, which Hospital Lane offers to other dentists as part of its imaging referral service, as an investment in the practice. She concludes: ‘It allows us to keep moving forward three-dimensional imaging is the gold standard for implant planning. It may not be a legal requirement, but to do implants without taking a three-dimensional image, could be retrospectively viewed as negligent.

Engel Institute Selects Vatech's Green CT for Implantology Program

FORT LEE, NEW JERSEY - January 5th, 2014 - The Engel Institute, a pioneer in providing unsurpassed mentoring and training for dental implantology, announced today that it has selected Vatech's PaX-i 3D Green as their machine of choice for their implantology program.

"There were several reasons why I chose the PaX-i 3D Green," said Dr. Todd Engel, Director & Founder of the Engel Institute. "Initially, the green, eco-friendly perspective challenged me to look into what the machine was about. When I found out that all of the major components were still highly focused on image quality, ease of use, low radiation, and low scan time, I understood that this was the ideal device for my institute."

Vatech's Green CT line separates itself from traditional conebeam CT (CBCT) machines with three important qualities: ultra-low radiation dosage while still providing a clinically meaningful and diagnosable image, eco-friendly materials and assembly, and FDA clearance for pediatric use. With a Green CT, patients can be assured that they are receiving an ultra-low dose of radiation while doctors are obtaining exceptional radiographic images for their diagnosis.

As a leader in innovation in the digital radiography space, Vatech has developed a cutting-edge, highly sensitive, high resolution flat panel X-ray sensor, which allows the PaX-i 3D Green to capture clinically diagnosable CT scans, while lowering the levels of radiation from traditional dental conebeam CT machines. The main focus for this strenuous engineering, development and technology was to provide the world's first CBCT dedicated to image excellence as well as the consideration for the safety of our patients.

Vatech's PaX-i 3D Green has revolutionized the way dental CBCTs are manufactured by adopting comprehensive eco-friendly quality control measures. The entire manufacturing process was reworked to eliminate hazardous substances, such as lead and mercury, from the devices. Renewable energy sources were utilized during manufacturing to not only to lower the overall carbon footprint involved in assembling the PaX-i 3D Green, but also to lower the power consumption across the entire supply chain. Vatech's vertical integration of critical components, including the sensor technology, allows for higher quality control, increased pace of innovation, and ultimately greater value to the customer.

Vatech's efforts to lower the dosage of radiation in their CBCT devices have resulted in their FDA approval for pediatric use. "I have the responsibility to ensure that my students, colleagues and patients realize various risks that accompany radiation exposure and various imaging products," said Dr. Engel. "To know that Vatech has committed its Green CT products to ultra-low dosages of radiation gives me confidence and peace of mind knowing that we can provide the best possible care for the patient from the information obtained in each and every scan, without sacrificing image quality."

Vatech's PaX-i 3D Green is available through various dealers across the United States. For more information, please visit www.vatechamerica.com.

Keys to career success

Thomas Watson, the IBM founder, once said something like:  If you look at a company, you will know what kind of people work there. If you look at the workers, you will know what kind of company they’re working for.
So for this article, we conducted an interview with an employee who is getting a lot of compliments for her style of work. Her name is Luna Ahn and she is an assistant manager for the Asia-Japan team, Sales Department of Vatech Global.

Let’s find out her keys to success:

1) Stay strong
Two words that characterize her are “persistence” and “effort”. For 10 years, from the age of 11, she was a taekwondo player and has won many gold medals at national competitions. So, from then on, she has honed her competitive character, which now helps her at work.

2) Ask if you don’t know something
In June 2012, when Luna was already working for two years in VATECH, an incident happened. Her team leader left the company and suddenly she was entrusted to be the team leader of China sales team. She panicked. She didn’t know what to do and how to lead a team of mostly newcomers, who worked in the team for only 6 months. Since she didn’t have any experience yet in leading a team, she started to ask questions to other seniors in the other teams. She asked 50 to 100 questions per day and wasn’t ashamed of it. Luna didn’t have any other way. In return for their help, she would treat her colleagues with lunches and dinners, and express her gratitude to them. This situation shows how important it is to find ways for cooperation.

3) Continuous efforts
During IDS 2011 in Germany, everyone in the sales and marketing teams were booked to participate in the exhibition, except for Luna. Her English skill then was far from being perfect, so she was left behind. But luckily one employee couldn't go, so she got the chance to participate in the exhibition. At the exhibit, Luna was assigned to handle Pax-Flex3D and from that day on she started to learn English diligently. She put a lot of efforts in practice and learning new terminologies. Luna believes that if you work with pleasure, you will always find the energy and ways to resolve problems. Until now, she still fills her excel file with new English words.

4) Learn from mistakes
Throughout her career, she has made a lot of mistakes, of course. But there is one rule that she always keeps in mind: Report an error immediately to your superior. You should be responsible for it though. So now, she always checks every tiny detail, even the spelling of addressee, because to do your work well, you need to start from the basics.

5) Constant measurement of growth
Besides the company’s business target, she always sets her own goal. “Pretty Luna” as dealers call her, always finds new markets and ways to sell more of our products. Step by step, checking her goals every day, she goes to her target and she is growing every day.
